I’m working on a response to an email one of my good friends sent. He’s a thoughtful and interesting character. We could have week-long conversations that go in so many directions we’d forget to eat or sleep. I enjoyed reading about his life but he addressed some concerns that I think about a lot, so I’m taking my time to craft a response that reflects how much I care about what we’re talking about. It’s a bit tricky, because I keep scraping things I write and I keep feeling like one thought leads to a thousand other ones and I start to ramble about the things. I’m probably pulling my hair out for little reason.
It’s leagues more satisfying than the kinds of forced poise and sterility I use with professional emails, but maybe that’s a personal flaw in thinking that professional matters need to be handled with surgical-like precision and unemotional slabs of concrete words and sentences.
