Keep Trying (Suicide Awareness Day)

What do you do
when you’re at the end of your rope?
You climb back up.
You try.
You try to find something you enjoy doing.
You try to find someone to help.
You try to find someone to connect to.
You try to make things better.
You try to make yourself better.
Even if you falter,
even if you slip,
keep trying.
Always keep trying.
Do not put the pressure
on yourself
to succeed with these things
because that boulder
on your shoulders may never move
and it will get heavier
as you age
and learn new depths of pain.
The best thing you can do is try.
Try until you no longer can,
then hide
in a ball
away from it all
for a while
until life bursts forth
from inside the pit of your gut
with the force of five thousand dragons
and you move forward in directions
you never even knew existed.
Keep trying
and you will find yourself
somewhere
you want to be.
and more importantly
you will become
someone
you want to be.

  1. Yes. How I wish my husband could have known what you know. Thank you for this.
