The Sounds of Sorry

The sounds he made
put sounds in her head
that made her upset.
She was offended by their order,
not his emphasis.
Now he must make sounds
to express his regret.
Then he must make sounds
to promise improvement.
But sometimes he says the same
sounds over and over
and semantic satiation
turns the apologies
into nothing more
than sounds.
